the essentials

broadening perspectives

captivating explanations

This blog started as a way to combine my two passions: basketball and science. My name is Tenesha and I have over 20 years of combined playing and coaching basketball experience. Basketball has shaped me into the leader, role model, and overall person I am today. I am also trained as a neuroscientist with a background in medical physiology. You might be wondering what the two have in common. Well, you have come to the right place to find that answer. I will share basketball news from high school, college, NBA, and international play. The overall goal of this blog is to combine breaking news stories with psychological and biological perspectives and explanations.

Also, as a coach I often find myself relating basketball to life lessons. In doing this, I have become a coach who loves to use quotes to introduce an overarching theme of the day. You will notice this site displays many sports quotations which can also be applied to life situations. Sports is a great teaching tool, and this blog aims to relate breaking sports news to applicable life lessons.

Another reason for this website is to provide basketball training, either online or in person, to anyone interested in taking their game to the next level. You will find training tips and workouts that can be applied to various experience levels. Check out the personal training tab for more information.

Please feel free to comment, form your own opinions, and conduct your own research on any topics presented. These articles are designed to make you critically think about situations rather than simply jumping to a black and white conclusion. In fact, it's the intricate complexity of the game that makes basketball intoxicating. Thank you for landing on this website. Happy reading!

“I have self-doubt. I have insecurity. I have fear of failure. I have nights when I show up at the arena and I’m like, ‘My back hurts, my feet hurt, my knees hurt. I don’t have it. I just want to chill.’ We all have self-doubt. You don’t deny it, but you also don’t capitulate to it. You embrace it.”

-Kobe Bryant

Understanding the physiology and psychology behind sports makes you into a better athlete

In a world where we are constantly surrounded by social media accounts displaying an idea of the perfect body or the athletic pressures of capturing the best shot, it’s important we discuss mental health implications. As someone who has personally been affected by mental health obstacles and witnessed those close to me lose mental health battles, I am here to encourage you to keep fighting. Remember at the end of the day, sports are supposed to be fun. Allow sports to become a positive outlet. If sports are not your outlet, I encourage you to find something that YOU enjoy. Mental health is real and something that we all can get better at coping with and finding ways to support others.

If you are having a crisis, I encourage you to click the button below and connect through one of the mental health services provided. You matter to this world. You matter to me.
